Relax

Whether you are looking for a base from which to explore and engage in all the recreational pursuits that Spey Valley has to offer or to simply sit, put your feet up and enjoy village life then the Smithy Cottage in Nethy Bridge is perfect for you.

The Smithy, part of which dates back to 1806, was redeveloped for holiday home use some 35 years ago and in 2012 underwent complete internal refurbishment to provide luxurious, contemporary family accommodation over 1.5 levels whilst maintaining its rustic charm.  We like to call it "Highland Hip".

The Smithy sits in its own child friendly south facing garden which is punctuated by stunning Scots Pine trees and a 150 year old Oak tree.

You can spot red squirrels running through the branches off the bird cherry trees which overhang the stairs leading directly to a private river bank on the River Nethy.

The Smithy provides modern, comfortable family accommodation for six people (4 adults, 2 children) and with the use of a sofa bed in the lounge has the potential to sleep upto eight.

With the exception of food and toiletries, the house is provided on a "turn-key" basis.  We aim to provide all the equipment that you would find in your own home plus consumables such as washing powder, dishwasher tablets, loo roll and tin foil etc.

There is now free, unlimited wi-fi for all guests and electricity, bed linen, towels and logs for the stove are all included in the weekly rate.

The Riverside Bedroom

The Riverside bedroom has a comfortable double bed with wardrobe, chest of drawers, electric radiator, TV and DVD player.   Why not nod off to sleep with the window open, listening to the gentle rush of the River Nethy? Or if you are just too cosy to get out of bed then just lie in and watch a DVD from under the duvet.

The Causar suite

The Causar suite is a substantial master bedroom with a solid wood kingsize bed and private en-suite shower room.  There is wall to wall carpeting, electric radiator and wall mounted TV with DVD player.  The ensuite has a shower, wc, wash hand basin and underfloor heating.

The Cabin

Access to The Cabin is by way of timber stairs leading to a pine lined childrens bedroom in a converted loft area above the Riverside bedroom.  There are two full sized single beds.  There are twinkly lights and a snug area with bean bags where you can read or play on your DS.  (Please note that very young children may require adult supervision on the stairs.)

Open plan lounge / dining

Leading from the inner hall is the main family bathroom with shower and the stunning lounge area complete with leather sofas, one of which converts to a comfy double bed.  There is a large, south facing picture window through which access can be taken to the sun trap patio and the back garden.

There is a HD TV, Blu-Ray player and CD system with DAB radio and i-pod capability.  There is also a PS3 with a range of games for all ages.

There is a large capacity wood burning stove sited in one of the former blacksmiths stone forges with a tiled area to front and wood basket.

The dining area which seats upto eight people is perfect for busy family breakfasts or intimate dinners for two.

Kitchen

From beans on toast to serving steak from the award winning local butcher, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need.  There is a hob, oven, dish washer, sink, microwave, washing machine / tumble dryer and fridge freezer.

Outdoors

In addition to the private riverbank ground, there is large south facing garden.

There is parking for two cars and a secure shed for outdoor equipment.

Guests also have access to the Causar haugh closeby which extends to over 2.5 acres.  This area provides a large open space with approximately 200 metres of river frontage.  A great spot for some informal fishing, bird watching, football, frisbee or tree climbing.
